What's Local(“the platform”, “we”) is an online marketplace that lets local vendors — farmers, makers, and bakers — list and sell their own products directly to shoppers. We are a technology platform, not the seller of any product listed on the site. Each vendor is an independent business responsible for the accuracy of their listings, the quality and safety of their products, and fulfilling orders (pickup or delivery) as described on their storefront. By placing an order, you’re entering into a transaction with that vendor; we facilitate discovery, ordering, and payment, and collect a commission on completed transactions.
Shoppers can browse and order without creating an account. Vendor and admin accounts are created by invitation; vendors are responsible for keeping their storefront information (pricing, availability, hours) accurate and for securing their login credentials.
Orders can be cancelled before a vendor completes them, subject to the cancellation window shown at checkout and order status. Refund requests for completed orders are handled per-vendor: some vendors accept refund requests within a limited window after the order (shown when you request one), and some vendors sell as final sale. Refund requests are reviewed and approved by What’s Local; approved refunds are returned to your original payment method.
Vendors receive payment for completed orders minus a platform commission, disclosed to vendors in their dashboard. Online payments are processed and disbursed via Stripe Connect; cash orders are settled directly between the vendor and shopper, with commission collected separately by the platform.
Don’t use the platform to place fraudulent orders, misrepresent products, circumvent commission by arranging off-platform payment for orders initiated here, or interfere with the site’s operation. We may suspend or remove accounts that violate these terms.
What’s Local is not responsible for the quality, safety, legality, or accuracy of vendor listings or products — that responsibility rests with the vendor. To the extent permitted by law, our liability for any claim relating to your use of the platform is limited to the amount of the order in question. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under Ontario or Canadian law.
We may update these terms as the platform evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated date. Continued use of the platform after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein.
